Have you ever taken the time to think about why some goals are more manageable than others? Or, why some goals we want to accomplish seem to end up on our same goal list, year after year? Scott has a very pragmatic and manageable approach to creating the habits needed for effect goal-setting. When done with intent and determination, these takeaways can help you set and accomplish your goals, whether large or small.
Key Takeaways
- Don’t over commit- To make goal-setting more effective, set one manageable goal at a time, and resist the temptation to become overzealous by setting three, four, or five. Determine one goal that’s accomplishable. Then, begin to set dates in which you’d like to accomplish this goal and begin working towards it. Breaking goal-setting down into smaller, more manageable components helps to build the confidence in you that comes from achieving any goal, no matter how small.
- You are your greatest investment- If you work to combine the things you enjoy with learning, accomplishing your personal development goals can become more manageable. Scott’s reference to the fable of the goose and the golden egg brings this takeaway closer to home. The analogy says you can’t keep laying eggs all day long and never nurture the goose. To become a great producer who’s effective in setting and accomplishing goals, you must find the balance between actually producing, doing the work, and finding ways to improving your skills to produce. Investing in yourself and your personal development is key in effective in goal-setting.
- Relationships are your most valuable possessions- Scott believes, especially in real estate, that relationships are the life blood of every business. When you consider the landscape of business, everything is done through relationships. Ask yourself this question, am I being effective or efficient with relationships? Becoming cognizant, and self-aware is a good place to start helping you see how you relate with people. The more self-aware you become, the more you can have a better sense of introspection in building valuable relationships with people.
Effective goal-setting and making a habit of it, is a key component in the making of a great salesperson. In real estate, there may be an endless number of things to do but being a busy salesperson isn’t going to get you closer to your goals. Becoming intentional, deliberate, determined, and relentless will help you manage distractions and have the highest impact on the goals you’ve set in place to accomplish.
