Regardless of whether the Patriots or the Rams take home this year’s Super Bowl title, one thing’s for certain: Atlanta homeowners will come out as the real winners next week.

According to exclusive data from VRBO, a vacation rental-by-owner platform, Atlanta homeowners stand to make a whopping $1,300 next weekend if they’re willing to rent out their properties to eager football fans.

The average rate on an Atlanta property during February’s upcoming Super Bowl weekend clocks in at $441 per night — 104% higher than the same time last year. It equates to about $1,323 in total potential income.

There’s a chance these potential profit estimations are on the low end, though, especially if you look at historical data. In Minneapolis, VRBO hosts saw average rates of $785 per night around Super Bowl LII — or about $2,300 in total weekend profits. In Houston the year before, average rates hit $471 per night or $1,413 for the full weekend.

According to Casey Comeau, senior director of global partner marketing at VRBO, Atlanta presents a huge opportunity for area property owners.

“With thousands of visitors traveling to Atlanta for this year’s Super Bowl, local homeowners have a huge opportunity to earn extra income by renting out their homes on VRBO,” Comeau said. “Our data shows that owners can earn more than double what they typically would during a standard weekend based on the heightened travel demand.”

Though there are already 1,300 VRBO listings in the Atlanta area up for grabs, the data shows there’s still room for homeowners to get in on the action. Traveler demand in the area has jumped 870% in the region.

For Atlanta homeowners who do decide to rent their homes out, Comeau says optimizing their rental listing can help maximize profits.

“Feature high-res photos,” he said. “People shop with their eyes and rely on images when choosing where they want to stay.”

He also recommended writing detailed descriptions (including how far the home is from Mercedes-Benz Stadium), detailing all local amenities (pet-friendly, hot tub, etc.) and, finally, stocking the home with all the must-haves.

“Stock, style and personalize the home,” Comeau said. “Put yourself in the guests’ shoes when preparing and styling your home. Stock your kitchen with the essentials, like salt and pepper and olive oil. Many owners go the extra mile by including snacks, a bottle of wine or recommendations for local bars and restaurants in the area.”
