The two Privé at Island Estates condominium towers in Aventura, near Miami, Florida, are almost 90 percent sold out, but the most expensive unit is still available: a six-bedroom penthouse listed at $8.3 million.
The name Privé, from the French word for private, is fitting: to get to the island development, you must first traverse a private road, cross a private bridge, and get past a gatehouse. It’s what the marketing material calls “absolute privacy.”
The penthouse has 6,200 square feet of interior space that seems to blend with the almost 5,000 square feet of private terrace. There are views of the Atlantic Ocean, the surrounding bay, and the Intracoastal Waterway from almost every spot in the unit.
Inside, there’s a kitchen with a 22-foot marble-topped island. The ceilings range from 12 feet to 17 feet. On the terrace, there’s a 24-foot private pool and two “summer grills” for outdoor dining.
The Privé community has full-time concierge service, a restaurant, a wine cellar, a cigar room, playrooms for little kids, a teenage room, and a two-story gym with steam rooms and saunas in each tower.
The footprints of the 16-story angled buildings cover almost the entire eight-acre island. But, there’s just enough room to provide residents with a private beach that has butler service, an outdoor children’s playground – the kids don’t get a butler – and a jogging trail. Plus, if you are feeling social and don’t want to use the private pool on the penthouse’s balcony, there are two community swimming pools.
There’s also a 54-slip marina that can accommodate boats up to 140-feet long – so, if you have a small superyacht, you’re ok, but if you have a “mega superyacht” like the 590-foot yacht owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, you’re out of luck. While there’s no strict definition, a superyacht is generally defined as longer than 78 feet.
