These most-searched homes from April are all still for sale.
It’s house-hunting 101 to know what you’re looking for—but it doesn’t hurt to know what other people are looking for, too. We put together a list of some of our most-searched in April to showcase what’s piquing home buyers’ interest right now.
And it’s not only about what homes they’re searching, but where those homes are located. The neighborhood surrounding a home matters, so we’ve included a guide to each listing’s community with a little help from What Locals Say, our guide to neighbors’ insights on the places they live. You might just find your dream home among these picks—or maybe just some major inspiration.
The “New York Times” described Clifton as a place “where a lot of little worlds commingle,” and a statistical analysis backs that up. It’s one of the most diverse cities in the U.S., with high levels of cultural, socioeconomic, and religious diversity. Unsurprisingly, that leads to an eclectic mix of businesses on Main Avenue, Clifton’s downtown, with restaurants featuring cuisines that range from Lebanese to Mexican to Peruvian. However, everyone agrees that the quintessential Clifton culinary experience is a stop at Rutt’s Hut, a hot dog place that started as a roadside stand in 1928. Their practice of deep-frying hot dogs until the casings split gives the dogs their signature name: “The Ripper.”
It’s hard to not fall for the grand, brick steps leading from the street up to the front door of this lovely 1950 colonial, and the interior has charm to match. The ample counter space in the kitchen begs for a home chef, and the finished basement is a big plus, too.
New York doesn’t lack for amazing places to live, of course. But in 2017, “Money” magazine ranked Valley Stream the best place to live in the whole state. It’s all about location. You’re close to JFK International Airport, and a 45-minute drive or train ride from Manhattan, but you’re still in a quiet, family-filled community. One long-time resident says, “The schools, state parks, recreation facilities, utilities, sanitation services are exemplary.”1 The community is very diverse, with large African-American, Latino, and Asian populations. Valley Stream has also left a particularly delicious mark on the rest of the country: this is the city where Snapple was created and founded in 1972.
This stately and spacious colonial is the perfect place to call home in Valley Stream. With four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a patio, there’s plenty of room to relax whether you commute to the Big Apple or keep it closer to home.
One resident2 says L.A.‘s Hollywood Hills neighborhood is a “nice area” that’s “dog-friendly and quiet at night.” When you look up at the Hollywood sign, you’re looking at the Hollywood Hills—and the many cultural landmarks and major celebrities it contains. The Hollywood Bowl, Griffith Park, and the American Film Institute are all here, and stars ranging from Chris Pratt to Anna Kendrick have called it home. Also within close proximity of your new dream home: Universal Studios Hollywood, the Los Angeles Zoo, and a slew of upscale restaurants and nightlife spots.
Many of the homes in this neighborhood tend to announce their presence loudly, but this gorgeous home cuts a lower profile. With an ivy-covered wall, it almost seems to grow straight out of a lush hill. The interior has similarly natural flair, with stone, exposed brick, and natural wood to spare.
While that last home is undoubtedly lovely, it’s still just scratching the surface of the opulent architectural riches to be found in the Hollywood Hills. So how about a quintessential Hollywood mansion?
This brand-new, six-bedroom mansion fits the bill. The gate and floating walkway lead to a home dominated by floor-to-ceiling windows with incredible views of the city, plus the incredible pool with built-in fireplace. As if that’s not enough, other amenities include a movie theater, a cigar room, and a wine cellar.
Orlando’s South Semoran neighborhood is just 10 minutes from Orlando International Airport, 15 minutes from downtown Orlando, and 25 minutes from Universal Orlando and Disney World. But the neighborhood itself has quite a lot to offer, too. Local restaurants abound, with cuisines including Peruvian, Colombian, Thai, and Chinese. The neighborhood also offers several grocery stores and coffee shops. In addition to the appealing local amenities, Trulia reviewers describe South Semoran as a friendly community where neighbors each other. One resident says it all: “I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.”3
This lovely, new construction home offers numerous pleasant touches, from the kitchen’s island and recessed lighting to the bathrooms’ sparkling countertops. And it’s located in the Starlight Ranch retirement community, which includes a clubhouse and fitness center with a large pool. What better way to enjoy the Orlando sun?
The Yonkers neighborhood of Seminary Heights is ideal for New Yorkers looking for easy access to both New York City and Upstate. It’s also home restaurants with tastes from around the world. You’ll find authentic Chinese, Mexican, halal and more right in this friendy, tidy neighborhood. And if you’re looking for a place to work off all that incredible food, the Tibbetts Brook Park is right next door. One of Westchester County’s first developed parks, this 161-acre expanse offers swimming, hiking, fishing. and more. One local also calls out how this family-friendly neighborhood is “close to [an] excellent mall and many family-owned restaurants.”4
This adorable Colonial contains more than few surprises inside, from unique arched doorways to a greenhouse-style sunroom that will definitely max out the afternoon rays. All that, and you’re right on the local bus line.
