The TriBeCa home of one of Hollywood’s most accomplished actors has come back on the market with a new price and a new look. Meryl Streep first listed this four-bed, five-bath unit in the famed River Lofts building this time last year for $24.6 million and has just brought it back to market for $18.25 million. Records show Streep purchased the unit for $8.95 million in 2004, not long after the building had reopened.
The 4,000-square-foot full floor unit has its own private elevator entrance that opens to an open plan arrangement with views of One World Trade Center, the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings and the Statue of Liberty. River Lofts was a former warehouse converted into only 38 condo units around 2003, all of them are bright and airy loft-like places to live without sacrificing too much on privacy.
Streep’s unit is the top floor penthouse with a ten-foot wide outdoor terrace already is outfitted with mature plants and trees, as well as a built-in gas grill. The interior has electronic shades, Lutron lighting, a central sound system and strategic lighting placement to showcase an art collection (for which there is plenty of wall space to hang it on).
The kitchen is slightly separate from the main living rooms, with the same Brazilian walnut hardwood floors seen throughout the unit. The kitchen island, completely made from a hardwood, is an especially high-end touch. Varenna cabinetry and Miele appliances round out the space.
Tucked away from the main living room is this media room which still has floor to ceiling windows, but has a more secluded feel.
The home office has built in shelves along one wall that blend in so the smaller space doesn’t feel cramped. A metallic door to the terrace adds a touch of shine to the room as well.
The main bedroom occupies the coveted corner of the unit and has a private door to the terrace. There’s also an attached bath and abundant closet space. The windows in the whole condo are triple-glazed so they keep out the noise and make it easier to maintain a comfortable temperature during New York’s extreme cold and heat.
Here is one of the bathrooms which keeps it classic with a freestanding tub and industrial-style fixtures that make sure it still has a touch of its pre-residential identity.
The outdoor terrace has unobstructed views of just about everything you would expect from New York’s skyline.
The building also comes with a 24-hour doorman, private garden, private storage, workout rooms and garage parking. Juliette Janssens and Allison Koffman of Sotheby’s International Realty have the listing.
