In this week’s look at trophy homes on Forbes Global Properties, I set out to find big properties for even bigger budgets. While each property offers a lot in terms of size and space, the scale of each is significantly different from location to location. From a Hawaii ranch with an oceanfront polo field to a Los Angeles mansion with a bowling alley, here’s a look at what around $45 million buys in three luxury housing markets.
O’ahu, Hawaii
One of the largest landholdings remaining in O’ahu, the 2,740-acre property known as Dillingham Ranch features Hawaii’s most extensive coconut palm groves and an oceanfront polo field. Built for early industrialist Benjamin Franklin Dillingham, the working ranch has hosted generations of cattlemen, sportsmen and dignitaries. More recently, the property has been used as a setting for the shows “Lost” and “Hawaii Five-O” as well as the film “Kong: Skull Island.”
Features: Utilized in recent years as an event space, the property features a main lodge of about 3,000 square feet, a 700-square-foot commercial-grade kitchen and eight additional bedrooms. Hardwood floors and a fireplace are among features of the main residence, which recently underwent a multimillion-dollar restoration. Outside, sloped eaves supported by a series of columns create a wrap-around porch.

Other perks: Dillingham Ranch features more than 1,000 feet of beachfront at Kai’ahulu Beach as well as access to incredible spots for snorkeling, ocean swimming and surfing. Private trails and roadways for hiking and biking snake through the sprawling property. The rear of the ranch borders the lush landscapes of the Mokuleia Forest Reserve.

Located in Caldes de Malavella, a small town outside of Girona known for its thermal baths, this stone-clad manor pairs elegant living spaces with a range of exterior amenities. The 10-bedroom, 10-bathroom estate is situated in the heart of Les Gavarres national park and features spectacular views in nearly every direction.
Features: Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living and dining room leave little to the imagination while opening the interior to views of mature trees, mountain peaks and the rolling countryside. In the primary bedroom suite, a spiral staircase winds upward to a small den or office space.
