The most expensive penthouse to have been sold in London in 2019 exchanged hands on the day of the U.K. general election.
An unnamed Hong Kong millionaire bought on December 12 a six-bedroom penthouse at Belgravia Gate on Grosvenor Crescent for some £65 million ($85 million)–the highest price achieved this year.
The buyer, who is believed to be a young multi-millionaire in his mid-30s, is understood to be paying almost £10 million in stamp duty tax.
It is also the most expensive penthouse ever sold in Belgravia.
Located across the top two floors of Belgravia Gate, the vast duplex spans around 9,800 sq ft and has lavish interiors designed by architecture firm Thomas Juul-Hansen.
On the lower floor, the apartment features two large reception rooms, a 16-seat formal dining room, a family kitchen, study, cocktail bar and guest bedroom suite. The main reception room and the cocktail bar open onto a 2,000 sq ft private rooftop terrace.
On the upper floor sits the master bedroom suite, which spans the entire depth of the building, and has a bedroom suite with lounge area, His and Her ensuite bathrooms and an additional master bathroom, as well as a further four bedroom suites.
Belgravia Gate is an ultra-high-end scheme created from four Grade II listed buildings at 11-15 Grosvenor Crescent. It comprises 12 ultra-prime private residences and has been called “Belgravia’s answer to One Hyde Park”–the world’s most expensive residential complex in Knightsbridge.
The penthouse sale was brokered by Beauchamp Estates’ the Private Office, the ultra-high-net-worth client division of the estate agent, which declined to comment on the sale and the identity of the buyer.
