Jeff Bezos Purchases Another New York Condo, Approaches $100M In Holdings All In The Same Building

Last summer Jeff Bezos, whom Forbes estimates has a net worth of $143.1 billion, spent approximately $80 million combined on a three-story penthouse and two units directly below at 212 Fifth Ave. Now he’s rounding out his footprint in the building by buying the $16 million unit that is adjacent to the two sub-units, as the New York Post reported. This means he has nearly $100 million invested in the one building and, according to building permits filed on his behalf, plans to invest even more in a major renovation that will combine the units.

This 3,000 square foot condo is a 3-bed, 3.5 bath unit that last sold in 2018 for $11.25 million, according to property records. The entire building was a renovated in 2017 but still keeps some of its industrial feel from when it was built in 1913 with large windows and loft-like ceiling heights. With interiors designed by Pembrooke & Ives, the unit was originally built with 4-inch thick Calacatta marble countertops and Gaggenau appliances in the kitchen and heated floors and Carrara marble walls in the master bathroom. At its last sale the listing states there are $4,759 in monthly fees that cover the concierge, doorman, fitness center, yoga studio and spa, screening room, golf simulator, game room, lounge, children’s playroom and climate-controlled storage for food deliveries.

Bezos already owns one of the largest homes in the D.C. area—the former Textile Museum, which he purchased for $23 million in 2017 and this year he bought the highest-priced home on record in California when he paid a reported $165 million for the Beverly Hills estate owned by media titan David Geffen. This is in addition to a ranch in Texas and an estate in Medina, WA measuring 30,000 acres.

Now with this fourth unit on Fifth Avenue he owns over 20,000 square feet of living space with 360 degrees views that include Madison Square Park, Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Here’s a look again at the penthouse renderings from before his purchase.

There are two other active listings in the building, which has a total of about 48 units (that is if you count all the ones Bezos bought as separate units). One is a 3-bed, 3-bath unit asking $11.6 million for 3,000 square feet, the other is a 2-bed,2-bath asking $4.8 million for 1,500 square feet. A 3-bed, 3.5-bath unit is also available for rent for $35,000 per month.
