Bette Midler’s New York City penthouse is still on the market after being listed for $50 million earlier this fall. Overlooking the Central Park Reservoir, with views of the city skyline in the distance, the four-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bath condo is the result of two previously separate units that were remodeled into this 7,000-square-foot triplex with curved staircases connecting each level (a private elevator brings you directly to the unit and the first two floors). The two-year renovation project by architecture firm Frederick Fisher and Partners, with interiors by decorator Fernando Santangelo, meant the narrow hallways disappeared and rooms were made larger to accommodate a spacious feel.

The Ne0-Renaissance building dates to 1925, when architect Emery Roth designed the 14-story building. Only 18 residences total are at this address, making it a relatively private place to live inside the coveted Carnegie Hill neighborhood. Currently it is the only active listing in the building where the next highest-priced recorded sale was a $19 million five-bedroom, five-bath unit that sold last July.

The unit has multiple living rooms across the three levels, including this one with a fireplace and access t0 the outdoor terrace. A total of 3,000 square feet of outdoor terrace space come with the unit, most of which is dedicated to Midler’s love of the outdoors with bird houses, potted pine trees and an assortment of plants that range from ornamental hydrangeas to edible vegetable and herb plants.

Another living room has three-quarter length windows to achieve some natural light but still have a softer vibe.

The kitchen also has access to the outdoor terrace, while indoors it has an impressive range hood, custom cabinets, a six burner Garland stove, Sub Zero refrigerator and Miele dishwasher.

All the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, but the master bedroom has two, plus two steam rooms and a beauty parlor. One of the master bathrooms has a Japanese hinoki-wood soaking tub.

Several of the bedrooms have bold color decor and one-of-a-kind features, such as these custom-made window surrounds in the striped bedroom.

The hallway to that bedroom is another bold-hued space, with enough room for a desk and piano.

The unit comes with $25,515 in monthly fees, which include amenities such as a doorman, basement storage, and a fitness room. For more information head to the listing page with John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens.
