Indian Wells To Become Trendy Coachella Destination With A Delano Hotel And Residences

The SBE Group is expanding its famed Delano brand into the California desert, with ambitious plans to open a new Delano Hotel in the Coachella Valley. Scheduled to open in 2022, the stunning Delano Hotel & Residences in Indian Wells will include 154 hotel rooms and 59 condos. 

Home to the famed Coachella Music Festival and the extremely popular Masters Tennis Tournament, the area has experienced a massive influx of visitors who often travel over an hour in congested traffic from neighboring Palm Springs to the many high profile events taking place in the valley. With an increase of younger millennial consumers, SBE is hoping its $85 million project will create a wave of new energy for the city and offer new options for travelers. The area is ripe for second-home buyers from Canada and Southern California and is already seeing an influx of new developments including a planned 140-room Montage Hotel in neighboring La Quinta that will also offer residential golf villas for sale and a 200-room Pendry in La Quinta that will add furnished residential condos to its resort.

SBE founder and CEO Sam Nazarian has created a desert oasis that will include a branch of the famed  Katsuya restaurant, created by chef Katsuya Uechi, as well as its super popular SKYBAR concept. The new Delano Hotel SKYBAR will offer up a 24-hour pool deck and feature the most outrageous cocktails ever created using custom mixologists.

I have been a huge fan of Miami’s legendary Delano Hotel in South Beach with its famed all white billowing curtains and contemporary Philippe Starck artsy decor. There is always a theatricality with Delano where every customer feels like they are part of an extravagant private fashion show. Adding this new energy to the Coachella Valley will instantly create the ultimate retreat.

The 59 residential condo units will range in size from 900 sf one-bedroom units to 3,000 sf three-bedroom units and will be priced between $500,000 and $2 million. Some of the hotel villas will also have their own pools. Amenities include a private fitness center, pool/spa, meeting room, and use of Delano hotel amenities. All branded condominium owners will also automatically become sbe VIP Members.

Along with investment and development company TMC Group, the property is designed by one of my favorite architectural firms in the world WATG and Dakota Development. The location is on a large plot of empty land on Highway 111 between the Indian Wells Golf Resort and the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens.

The Delano South Beach also recently announced it is partnering with the trendy Nammos Mykonos, the hottest beach club in Greece, to completely overhaul the properties restaurant with a celebrity-rich outdoor space complete with cabanas and daybeds. It will be the first international collaboration for the super popular Nammos Mykonos.

Joining the South Beach and Las Vegas properties, Delano will also open a Dubai property with private residences in 2020. They plan to expand the brand to Bodrum, South America (Rio) and Europe while continuing to add more US properties in the coming years. AccorHotel purchased a 50% share in SBE last year which helps add to the expansion plans. SBE also operates restaurants and nightclubs as well as the uber-popular  SLS, Mondrian, and Redbury Hotels. They currently have 25 hotels and more than 170 restaurants and clubs around the world.
