The grand opening of the 18-million-square-foot Hudson Yards was as massive as its footprint.
More than 122,000 people visited the giant retail-dining-residence compound opening weekend, while the following two weekends saw crowds grow by 1.6% and 2.4%, respectively. A whopping 1.5 billion have visited the development in the last month alone.
According to Placer.ai, which analyzes foot traffic based on device patterns and artificial intelligence, Hudson Yards has even outpaced longstanding NYC landmark Rockefeller Center on more than one occasion.
Though the first weekend saw the bulk of visitors from nearby neighborhoods (within a five-mile radius), the data shows people are traveling further and further as the days go on. On the last weekend of March, a full quarter of Hudson Yards visitors traveled 30 miles or more.
"As time passes, visitor mix is shifting from curious locals to tourists," Placer.ai found.
Placer.ai’s data also dives into just who Hudson Yards shoppers are. According to the analytics firm’s findings, they’re regular visitors of The High Line, Central Park, Macy’s on Herald Square, New York University and Chelsea Market.
More than half make $75,000 or more, and the most popular home ZIP codes are 10011 (Chelsea), 10023 (Upper West Side) and 10025 (Upper West Side).
