The far reaches of the Bruny Island, off the southeast coast of Tasmania, Australia, are breathtaking—a mix of rugged seascape, eucalyptus forests and grazing land.

Woodlands, a historic homestead, is set on the northern tip of the island, where it takes in 360-degree of land and sea, including the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, Storm Bay and the Derwent Estuary. Water is a vital transportation mode for the island as government-funded car ferries connect it to Kettering on the mainland.

Encompassing 248 acres, or about 100 hectares, the farm honors its heritage while being prepared for the future, whether a new owner would like to pursue sheep ranching, winemaking or tourism. With an existing vineyard and olive grove, the stage is set for following a personal passion, creating a dream home or even pursuing development.

The property was established in 1818 when explorer and mariner James Kelly received a land grant.

The existing two-story home, built by Kelly in 1829 and restored by the current owners over two decades, is clad in red brick and has a wraparound porch. It is listed in the Tasmanian Heritage Register.
