The Hollywood DNA built into this $82.5 million property started three generations ago when legendary studio executive Lew Wasserman and his wife Edie purchased two of the three lots that make up the entire 3.2 acre parcel. Their grandson, Casey Wasserman (now head of the Olympic Committee for LA 2028), inherited the land and purchased the adjacent lot (previously owned by Frank Sinatra) to complete the estate. In 2016 he and his wife Laura had this 18,500-square-foot house built but then listed it a mere two years later for $125 million, which at the time was the highest-priced listing on the market in California. It came down in price at least once (to $97.5 million) and is now on the market for $82.5 million.

The architecturally modern home, referred to as the Foothill Estate, was designed by architects Richard Meier and Michel Paladino, most known for their design of Los Angeles’ The Getty Museum. By using natural wood tones and light-colored stone walls, the five-bedroom, 13-bath home achieves a subtle profile on the land despite it being so large. It brings in the contemporary flair with automatic steel doors that open fully to the outdoors and has a seamless approach to design with uninterrupted wood floors and cabinetry in many of the rooms. Ceiling heights that measure 10 and 12 feet throughout the house add to the indoor/outdoor feel.

Here is one of the living rooms, which shows how the architects captured the common Los Angeles aesthetic of a wall of windows while the styling gives the room some character.

Viewed from the outside the sturdy framed doors seem to blend in with the same colors as the tree branches.

This more secluded living area has a walk-out patio and recessed lighting in its wooden slatted ceiling and shows off the automated steel and glass doors that retract to open the space fully.

The kitchen goes all white for its counters and island, but brings in multi-textured sandy tones on the wall and wide-plank flooring.

The master bedroom, accessed via a walkway of closet space, has a private deck.

More expansive closet space comes with a lightwell and ample room for storage.

The master bathroom departs from the natural wood tones with dark-stained wood and fixtures.

The home also comes with an art studio, 1,000-square-foot home gym, elevator, staff quarters, a screening room, 85-foot outdoor infinity pool and pool house.

The listing is with Stephen Shapiro at Westside Estate Agency.
