The house with a storied past is ready for a new owner. Made famous by singer Michael Jackson, Neverland Ranch is on the market again with a new price and marketing angle. After not finding success with an asking price of $100 million in 2015, it came down in price to $67 million. But now it’s back with a $31 million ask and the new moniker “Sycamore Valley Ranch.”
Jackson is in the news again for the public controversy over “Leaving Neverland”—a two-part documentary detailing accusations of molestation committed by Jackson due to air on HBO next week. A rep for the Jackson estate told The Wall Street Journal the timing of the home coming back on the market is not related to the documentary’s release but it time for the property to have ‘new stewardship’.
The Santa Barbara, California house is jointly owned by Michael Jackson’s estate and a fund managed by Colony Capital. Since Jackson’s death almost ten years ago, there have been a number of upgrades to the infrastructure. They have kept some of the features Jackson added to the 2,700-acre property, such as the train, fire department building and extensive topiary garden that spells out the name of the property in bright yellow around a clock.
There aren’t any interior photos of either the main house or other buildings on the land, but there are some images of the buildings laid out on the extensive grounds. Built in 1982 by architect Robert Altevers, Jackson purchased the home in 1989 for $19.5 million and started adding his personal style. Here’s part of the main house from a different angle showing more of the French Normandy-style that continues throughout the property. The main building has six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, with a first floor master suite and private loft with two master baths.
In total there are three separate guest homes, a movie theater with a stage, several barns, animal shelter facilities, corrals and a maintenance shop. There are also several large water features on the property. Here’s a look at the pool that also comes with a nearby covered outdoor barbecue area and pool house.
A four-acre lake with a waterfall is another one of the water features.
Then there are the extra touches around the grounds to give it some personality.
Here’s a look at the tennis courts.
Here’s one of the outdoor entertaining areas for communal gathering.
And at least one of the thousands of trees has a set of steps to make it easier to climb.
