Looking For Paradise? Check Out This $6.5 Million Home On Kauai

A stunning hillside home on the grounds of Kukui’ula, a private club located on the tropical island of Kaua’i, is on the market for $6,495,000. Designed by renowned Seattle, Wash.-based contemporary architect Olson Kundig, the 2,887-square foot home has spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The home can be purchased fully furnished in turn-key condition.

The pavilion residence, called Hale Nanea, was designed to take full advantage of the spectacular views afforded by the naturally sloping southwest facing homesite. It is worth noting that this part of Kauai enjoys an average of 300 sunny days each year.

Reached via a private and elevated passage entry, the home features ocean views that can be seen from both levels. Tall, sleek aluminium sliding glass doors and windows, in the great room, kitchen and bedrooms, allow light and breezes into the home. Glass railing separates occupants from edge of the great room when the doors are open, for a seamlessly transparent indoor-outdoor living experience. There is hardwood and stone flooring throughout the home.

The kitchen features a large island that comfortably seats six. It is equipped with Miele appliances, including a wine refrigerator, speed oven and warming drawer. There are stone counter tops and oak cabinets with matching interior doors.

The home offers four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. The master bedroom has a private lanai and spacious bath with soaking tub while the main floor guest bedroom suite has a garden shower. There are two additional bedrooms on the lower level, each with a private bathroom and an outdoor shower.

A spacious laundry room offers storage and a dedicated audio/video closet can accommodate an advanced home automation system. The home is pre-wired for audio/video and security monitoring and has multi-zone air conditioning.

There is 4,238 square feet of living space, including the exterior entertaining areas, which includes outdoor kitchen with a DCS grill, outdoor sink and under-counter beverage center on a lanai on the main level. The lower level lanai features a swimming pool, spa and wet bar. The home also has a two-car garage with an adjacent parking space.

Kukui’ula Offers World-Class Amenities

Kukui’ula, the only private club on the island, is situated on the South Shore of Kaua’i. The 1,010-acre development is a family-friendly club with world-class amenities, from a Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course to a full-service spa and multiple dining options. The club’s facilities are only available to members of the club (who are required to own property) and a limited number of guests who stay at The Lodge at Kukui’ula.

The club’s 21,000-square-foot clubhouse, Plantation House, offers a wrap-around lanai featuring spectacular views of the Pacific ocean in the distance. Here, there is a large living room, event pavilion, and a game room complete with billiards, vintage arcade games, darts and flat screen televisions.

The club’s restaurants include Umeke Kitchen + Bar, located in the main Clubhouse and The Makai Grill, which is open-air and poolside.

One of the best features of Kukui-ula is its 10-acre upcountry organic farm which grows complimentary produce for members (see Forbes’ recent article “The Travel Trend Of The Future: Luxury Resorts That Grow Their Own Food” at this link). The farm can be reached on foot, by bicycle or car.

There are plenty of both cultural and physical activities to keep members busy at Kukui’ula. On staff is a cultural resource liaison who oversees programming that delves into island culture, from lei making and hula dancing classes to sunrise and sunset ritual ceremonies.

The club offers saltwater pool for adults and a sand-bottom saltwater pool for families complete with waterfalls, and whirlpools. There is also a beach volleyball court, two tennis courts, a Bocce Ball court and a pickle ball court. There are also multiple bike and jogging paths throughout the resort.

The club’s private 18-hole golf course was designed by British Open winner Tom Weiskopf. The course offers panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding mountains, coffee fields and fruit orchards. There a driving range, putting green and inside the golf clubhouse is a well-stocked retail store, locker rooms and a putting lab. There are also several PGA-trained pros on staff who are available for lessons. There is a comfort station on the course where players can help themselves to complimentary food, snacks and beverages.

The Hi’ilani Spa + Fitness center is a 18,000-square-foot facility at Kukui-ula that includes private indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, a movement studio for yoga and Pilates, locker rooms with private outdoor garden showers. The spa offers a full menu of treatments, from massages to facials, and body treatments that use locally made scrubs and oils. The fitness center is outfitted with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment. There are 30 different fitness classes offered each week, including strength training, yoga, TRX , aqua boot camp, and more.

An outfitter on site, Huaka’i Guides & Outfitters Shop, can book outdoor adventures, from canoe sailing excursions with a picnic lunch to a hiking tour along the Kalalua Trail. The club also offers complimentary bikes to ride around the property as well as brand-new state-of-the-art electric bikes (for a nominal fee).

When homeowners join the club, they must pay an initiation fee, which provides capital resources for improving the club’s facilities. An additional fee (refundable if a member leaves the club) is charged for a golf membership, which means that those who do not play golf are not paying for it. Golf members are given exclusive access to morning tee times (with no greens fees) while those who are social members pay a green fee and can sign up for afternoon tee times.
