Women’s National Soccer Team Celebrates Victory On Billionaire Rick Caruso’s Controversial Yacht

Members of the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team celebrated their World Cup victory Tuesday aboard billionaire Rick Caruso’s 215-foot yacht, known as Invictus. Stars including Crystal Dunn, Ali Krieger and co-captain Alex Morgan posted Instagram stories from the boat showing a night time cruise past the Statue of Liberty. A representative for Caruso confirmed the visit, explaining that the real estate developer is a fan and invited the team to show his support for equal pay.

The women defeated the Netherlands 2-0 on Sunday in France. It was the team’s second World Cup win in a row and a record fourth world title for the U.S. team. In March, the team’s long-time fight to be paid equally to their male counterparts came to a head when 28 members filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against The United States Soccer Federation. After their win Sunday elated fans chanted "Equal Pay!"

Invictus also made headlines in March. Lori Loughlin’s daughter was aboard&nbsp;the yacht when the news broke that the actress was one of the parents charged in a college admissions bribery scandal. Loughlin and Caruso’s daughters are friends and Caruso is chair of the board of trustees at The University of Southern California where both were students.

Caruso’s fortune, which&nbsp;Forbes&nbsp;estimates is&nbsp;$4 billion, comes from the open-air shopping centers he develops in and around Los Angeles. The Grove, his best-known property, welcomes about 20 million visitors annually,&nbsp;more than the Great Wall of China or Disneyland. He recently opened a new retail center in L.A.’s Pacific Palisades neighborhood and a boutique hotel in Montecito, California,&nbsp;near Santa Barbara.

The team was in New York for a celebratory ticker-tape parade Wednesday. Los Angeles-based Caruso and Invictus were in town to host a fashion industry party.

Caruso often entertains on his yacht,&nbsp;which is named after&nbsp;William Ernest Henley’s 1875 poem, which ends with the lines “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.”
