Asking $17.999 million in Alpine, New JerseySignature Realty NJ

Now that he is playing for the Los Angeles Kings, by way of the Atlanta Thrashers and New Jersey Devils, hockey player Ilya Kovalchuk has listed his New Jersey home for sale for $17.999 million. The 22,000-square-foot house in Alpine, New Jersey—only 15 miles from midtown Manhattan—has a storybook appeal with turrets, wrought iron features and manicured gardens that feel like hedgerows you could get lost in just before falling down a rabbit hole. The 8-bedroom, 14-bathroom home sits on two acres of the former Frick Estate, which was subdivided after Henry Clay Frick II, grandson of industrialist Henry Clay Frick, died in the early 2000s. This house is on the same street as the original New Jersey Frick Mansion that had at one time been the most expensive listing in America at $68 million, but has come down several times and doesn’t appear to have sold. Kovalchuk purchased his home for around $4.5 million in 2010.

They are not releasing any interior pictures, but the exteriors give a good idea of how big the house is. Above is the front with sweeping driveway and several of the four turrets visible. Below is a picture of the back of the house with its outdoor patio and loggia for covered entertaining space.

The home does come with extensive indoor amenities, which you can get a sense of from the floor plan. There’s an indoor pool, with adjacent plunge pool, gym and sauna. Nearby there’s a theater and wine room with separate tasting area. A large entertaining gallery and two games rooms, plus what is labeled as an arts & crafts room, make up the right hand side of the lower level. Elsewhere in the house there are two kitchens, two pantries, a library and four-stop elevator. For the ultimate in climate control there is radiant floor heating and a 45-zone central air conditioning and 50-zone heating system.

For one final look at the outside here is the four-car garage to get a sense of the proportions of the house.
